I have a deaf coworker and the people trying endlessly to verbally speak to you happens a lot.
They also assume she’s stupid because of her verbalizations
Alot of how people treat her pisses me off to the point of needing to walk to the bathroom to calm down because I’ve already nearly lost my job having emotional outbursts and couldn’t cuss out the guy mocking her verbalizations by repeating her loudly and laughing as soon as he knew her back was turned.
Does anyone know any good websites to learn conversational ASL taught by actual speakers but for free? The one I found only allowed you to look up one word at a time because the rest was behind a paywall.
I know how to say I’m going to the bathroom and what’s your favorite color that’s it
but I wanna know how to have a genuine conversation other than pantomiming that I’m hot or waving hello because it seems like she’s lonely.
For anyone wondering, yes, Lifeprint is an amazing resource, but SignSchool is another good one to teach you in a more structured way. currently, despite forgetting to practice, I use signschool to learn what they can teach, and then I use Lifeprint to supplement that.
